How would you like to get your hands on a copy of one of this year’s eagerly awaited and most coveted recipe books? Plenty More by Yotam Ottolenghi has made it onto all the must-have Christmas gift guides and this is your chance to either cross that foodie off your Christmas shopping list or keep it for yourself as an early Christmas pressie from which you can prepare gorgeous dishes for friends and family – truly, the gift that keeps giving! The lovely people at The Happy Foodie have sent me a copy of Plenty More to give to one lucky reader.
Plenty More picks up where Plenty left off, with 150 more dazzling vegetable-based dishes, this time organised by cooking method. Grilled, Baked, Simmered, Cracked, Braised or Raw, the range of recipe ideas is stunning. With recipes including Alphonso Mango and Curried Chickpea Salad, Membrillo and Stilton Quiche, Buttermilk-crusted Okra, Lentils, Radicchio and Walnuts with Manuka Honey, Seaweed, Ginger and Carrot Salad, and even desserts such as Baked Rhubarb with Sweet Labneh and Quince poached in Pomegranate Juice, this is the cookbook that everyone has been waiting for…Ebury Publishing
I’ve had my copy for a couple of months now and have made numerous recipes from it, all of which have been utterly delicious – this is a book which has already become a stalwart in my kitchen. Here is a short video of the great man himself, recipe testing and talking about his inspirations and processes – oh how I would love to be working in that “under the arches” test kitchen of his!!

Since I don’t do social networking or Twitter I will leave a comment saying that my favorite spice would have to be Greek oregano, followed by many more that I love to use in cooking. Thank you for a chance to win.

There are so many great herbs and spices to choose from! But if I had to choose only one (!), it would probably be nutmeg, perfect for this time of year! ;)

This sounds awesome Selma! I have to say Cilantro, most of my curries would be lacking without a generous and refreshing garnish :)

Hi Naina – I love the smell and the taste of cilantro. I have never understood how people can say to substitute parsley instead – other than the way they look, there is no comparison at all!

I’m already following you, Selma, but don’t have Twitter or Facebook accounts. Even if it puts me out of the running – I love cumin, chili, turmeric cardamom and nutmeg and all the other ingredients that I put together to make up a vindaloo. Yumm.
My favourite vegetable is leek. I will always substitute onion for leek. I discovered it in a Lyndsey Davis novel set in Ancient Rome. :)

Not to worry, Mary you have got yourself one entry into the draw! I love all those spices too and turmeric is just so good for you. Recently I have started grating the fresh root into a cupful of water together with some fresh ginger and simmering it for 10mns. It’s great in a mug with a little honey. Thanks so much for joining in and good luck with the draw!

Oo my favourite spice has got to be cinnamon, simply due to it’s versatility – frankly I’m a bit addicted to it! It’s perfect in sweet dishes and I have it in my porridge most mornings as it adds a natural sweetness, but I also love it with lamb and in chutneys etc. to have with cheese and cold meat.

It’s one of my favourites too – the smell of baked goods with cinnamon drives me crazy!! I also sprinkle it over porridge and I always pop a couple of sticks in when I make Jamie Oliver’s Chicken in Milk too. Thanks for commenting and good luck!!

Oooh, so many wonderful for so many different reasons. Basil would have to be up there as it can be used fresh, preserves pretty well, can add flavour, be flavour or compliment flavour. It’s also so darn pretty to look at!

So hard to choose just one spice! I’ll go with nutmeg because it is so versatile and I just love the smell when I’m grating it into a white sauce or a gratin.
