R e a d e r G i v e a w a y!
Win a copy of FIVE by Rachel de Thample!
Ever since my son, Jake, began weaning, I have instinctively incorporated more fruits and vegetables into our diet. I always make sure to include at least three fruits/vegetables at meals – usually more if I can. For instance the other day we had a stir fry of shredded white cabbage, cavalo nero, ruby chard, kale tops, leeks and red onion with some salmon. This is why Rachel de Thample latest recipe book, FIVE which I reviewed last week, appeals so much to me
She shows you how easy it is to eat well and deliciously. The book is full of varied, accessible and delicious recipes that will have you packing away fruits and vegetables without any effort at all. There is a very useful double page spread listing fruits and vegetables and their portion sizes and the headnotes clearly state how many portions are in each recipe. And the recipes! There isn’t a single one which I wouldn’t make – from creative breakfast truffles and clever muffins to galettes, latkes, stunning salads, hearty soups, curries, pastries, cakes, puddings, sorbets. These are some of the recipes – Mexican Roast Pumpkin Soup with Lime; Lemony Scrambled Eggs with Indian Spiced Spinach and Mushrooms; Sassy Cherry and Watercress Salad with Crushed Pistachios; Athenian Rissoles with Pavlos’ Sauce; Summer Veg Patch Gumbo with Chorizo and Crab; Honeyed Aubergine, Feta and Walnut Borek; Honey Blossom Peaches; Mulled Figs with Mascarpone…doesn’t it all sound delicious?
I have one copy to give away to a lucky reader!
All you have to do is follow my blog via email (if you don’t already) and leave a comment below describing one of your favourite vegetable dishes – one of my favourites is griddled courgette/zuchinni slices, tossed with basil or mint, lemon zest, olive oil, parmesan and toasted almond slivers – so delicious!
All entries will go into a hat and I will pick the winner on Friday 20 February 2015.
One entry per person, so if you followed and commented on my last post, your name is already in the hat!
My recipe for Ruby Chard, Shiitake Mushroom and Chestnut Tart is featured on the Happy Foodies website along with 4 other bloggers – see what they have to say and what they made – http://thehappyfoodie.co.uk/articles/number-five-challenge

One of my favourite recent vegetable has to be massaged Cavolo Nero and blood orange salad with lemon and olive oil, scattered with fregola. Made by you, supplied by Vallebona, eaten with good wine and fabulous company. Perfect recipe.

Since we are a vegetable loving family, I,would say one of our favorite veggies would be the “first of the season zucchini” when they are small and tender, and we bread in cracker meal and egg and deep fry for a wonderful snack.

I’m glad you said “one” of your favourite vegetable dishes as to pick my favourite would be much too difficult! I think a melange of lightly steamed vegetables including broccoli, baby sweetcorn and green beans with a drizzle of balsamic, topped with toasted sesame seeds. Oh, or maybe pan roasted peppers, onions and courgettes with garlic and rosemary… :)

I just had a new mixed green salad with avocado, orange and jicama. It was topped with a slightly spicy avocado dressing. It was so amazing!

I get so cross with WP, I’ve had so many blogs I value quietly slip away unnoticed. I do eventually twig, but meanwhile….Enjoy the salad Selma, it’s been on very high rotation over summer, it seems to go beautifully with everything!

I love vegetable pakhoras- shredded silver beet, garlic, onion, tomato, finely chopped eggplant and potato, mixed through a spiced besan flour batter, fried then served with a fresh mint chutney.
This book looks great.

Oh my goodness, how can I pick one favourite vegetable dish?? Impossible!
It would probably have aubergines in, and tomatoes, garlic, cumin, paprika, coriander, parsley, olive oil and lemon juice, for starters….😀 xxx

Oh, this book sounds like the ONE I need! Coz I really do love veggies, especially leafy green ones. Those are my favorite! But I’m very bad at cooking them, mostly I just steam or boil and my family shows their disapproval by not touching them! 😃

Well, I think that you will find plenty in here that your family would approve of! I’ve entered you in the draw Angie – good luck x

Reading your sourdough post now and Celia’s. Hoping to work with it this weekend, but looks like I need a few things. Semolina flour for dusting, bench scraper, etc. A bit scary, hahaha…

To start with, all you really need is a big mixing bowl – I used a rubber spatula until recently and I had the semolina anyway, from making pasta but you could just as early use wholemeal or rye flour to stop the sticking – and use as little as possible too. x

This books looks like it would be great for everyday cooking Selma. It is always nice to learn new ways to add fruits and vegs to our meals. Eating well is so important and does take some thought and preparation but is oh so worth it isn’t it?
